Ski season jobs in Argentina: an Australian guide

Which ski areas should you approach?

Cerro Catedral is by Bariloche, Chapelco by San Martín de los Andes, and Las Leñas in the Mendoza region. Cerro Castor is another option. Each resort has its own base; a bus ticket to Bariloche won’t get you to a job at Chapelco.

Mountain Catedral, a ski school at Cerro Catedral, advertised 2026 positions for ski and snowboard instructors, children’s instructors, rental customer service and equipment fitting, plus administration and sales. Its instructor notice asks for ski instructor municipal certification current or in progress, or snowboard certification; the rental and counter roles are separate options. Those are the roles this school sought in 2026, not a promise of vacancies now. Check the current advert and criteria before applying.

Ask which instructor qualification and local authorisation the school requires before applying to teach. For rental or counter work, describe your relevant equipment, customer-service and Spanish-language experience. “I ski a bit” is not a qualification for teaching children on a mountain.

Hotels and restaurants away from the lifts have their own employers and terms. Do not infer a resort pass, guaranteed skiing time, or a wage from the word “seasonal”. Ask the employer for pay in writing. There was no verified September 2026 net rate for workers at Catedral, Chapelco or Las Leñas.

When and how should you apply?

Begin contacting operators and schools in autumn, ahead of the June–September planning window. That gives you time to sort documents and accommodation, but each employer sets its own recruitment dates. Read the current advert before submitting: its visible call is labelled 2026, so it must not be mistaken for a confirmed future-season vacancy.

1. Choose your base and role before writing. Search the operator’s or school’s own recruitment page rather than assuming one resort hires for another.
2. Give your available dates, relevant experience, language ability, and any instructor certification. Ask what documents an Australian applicant would need for the particular position.
3. Get the worksite, shifts and pay basis in writing. Ask about payroll, equipment duties and staff benefits before accepting. A lesson provider’s advert says nothing about another resort’s terms.
4. Allow for a delayed opening or an early finish. If the job cannot start without snow, ask what happens to the agreed start date and income when lifts are closed.

For salaried work, ANSES says employees need a CUIL (social-security number) at the start of employment and offers a free in-person issue process. Without a DNI (national identity card), you’ll need immigration evidence ANSES accepts for your situation. A tourist passport alone won’t establish the payroll paperwork ANSES requires. Which visa and living arrangements matter?

The Argentine Work and Holiday programme for Australians permits up to 12 months in Argentina and no more than six months with one employer.
